With the introduction of compact fluorescent light bulbs in the past few years, the search for more efficient lighting was moving forward fast. These new bulbs cut energy consumption by 80% while increasing the life. This was the wave of the future of the green movement and still is. The one drawback of these bulbs is the minute amount mercury that these compact fluorescent bulbs need to work properly. If properly disposed up this mercury can be contained, but many times this is not the case. This mercury can potentially pollute our waters.

A new type of bulb may be able to solve this problem. LED bulbs have been used for a few years now in small electronics and their use is growing fast. These bulbs have now been developed to be used in replacement of incandescent bulbs. Compared to a 60 watt these LED bulbs use only 6 watts of electricity and are produced in a way that has less of an impact on the environment. Although these bulbs are expensive now, the prices are falling and should get to the price point with in a year to make sense to use in Compass apartments.
